David Henley

Born in Jersey, in 1949, David was originally trained as a commercial artist.

Working with both gouache and oils, his work is mostly landscape based and is inspired by his emotional responses to the places he knows and loves. Daily walks with a sketchbook enable him to make very quick drawings and written notes, about the effects of light, atmosphere and weather. Accuracy of topographical drawing is of little importance to him, preferring to concentrate on the feel of the place. Local legends, the people, the smells and sounds around him all play a part in finding 'the spirit of the subject'.

David exhibits very regularly and has won several prizes at The Royal Watercolour Society in London. His work can be found in many public and private collections including Cunard's flagship, The Queen Mary II, The Jersey Museum, The Guernsey Museum, The Jersey Maritime Museum, The John Lewis Partnership Collection, St. Cuthbert's Paper Mill Collection, British Airways, Coutt's Bank, Ernst & Young and many private collections all over the world.

He now lives in Brittany and can be contacted by e-mail:
