Jersey shooters up in arms over Games' reduction THERE has been a 60 per cent reduction in shooting events on offer at the Commonwealth Games in 2010 – a decision that has local shooters up in arms. It was agreed at the Commonwealth Games Federation’s General Assembly in Sri Lanka last month that the shooting events should be aligned with the Olympic programme causing a reduction from 40 events, with 120 medals on offer, to 16 events with 48 medals – with all pairs events dropped. Cliff Mallett, shooting team captain at last year’s event in Melbourne and a former Commonwealth Games Association of Jersey president, said: ‘We’re not very happy about it at all and don’t see why the Commonwealth Games should go to what the Olympics do. We’re okay on the fullbore side of things but the pistol section has been decimated.’ Published 3/12/2007
