Rugby: Banahan triple warms Bath MATT BANAHANíS 2007 just keeps getting better and better. The former Jersey RFC Youth and Siam Cup player, who only turns 21 next Sunday, followed up his senior debut for Bath and England Sevens cap, with his first-ever Guinness Premiership hat-trick on Saturday. Those three tries, which brings this seasonís league tally to six from just five starts, helped shoot Bath to a 41-10 bonus-point winning victory over struggling Leeds Carnegie Ė and right to the very top of the Premiership, although Gloucester yesterday regained top spot with victory over Newcastle Falcons. The winger was first on the scoresheet at The Rec, powering over from 12 metres or so after good work from World Cup winning Springbok Butch James, Englandís Olly Barkley and Nick Abendanon, to name but three of the former Les Quennevais School pupilís illustrious team-mates. Bath were unable to build much on this lead until Banahan struck again, early in the second half, finishing off a superb team move under the posts. Scrum-half Michael Claassens scored Bathís third, but it was the young Jerseyman who earned the bonus point for four tries when he completed his hat-trick, by breaking two attempted tackles on his way to the line. Jersey fans should have the chance to follow his progress when Bath visit Wasps this Saturday, the Guinness Premiership match being televised live by Sky Sports 3 at 2.30 pm. Published 24/12/2007
