Battle of Flowers 2006
A CARNIVAL atmosphere filled the air this afternoon at the 2006 Jersey Battle of Flowers.
A crowd of 16,000 people watched the annual spectacular, as 28 floral creations made their way down the arena beside stiltwalkers, bands and majorettes.
Miss Battle of Flowers Sinead Brennan and Miss Junior Battle Katie Labey took pride of place in the parade, which included Spanish, Indian and Scottish themed floats, as well as space-age and fairytale creatures. A giant caterpillar floated down the arena, while local dancers twirled to toe-tapping tunes.

The Parish of St Clement walked away with the top prize for their entry Pow Wow, while the luck of the Irish won the Optimists Club the Prix d'Excellence with their float Off The Rails. St Brelade's Carnival du Soleil won the prize for the best carnival atmosphere, as they shimmied down the avenue in a blaze of yellow and orange flowers.
Islanders now have tomorrow's Moonlight Parade to look forward to, with gates opening at 7.30 pm.
