TENS of thousands of Islanders celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Liberation over the weekend. From parish fetes to emotional re-enactments, children’s tea parties, concerts, food fairs, and church services the perfect weather encouraged Islanders of all ages to celebrate their freedom.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were the special guests for the weekend’s centrepiece event in Liberation Square where many Islanders who were present in 1945 relived the moment of their Liberation by Force 135.

The weekend culminated in a spectacular fireworks display above St Aubin’s Bay which ended with searchlights marking out a huge V for victory sign in the night sky.
