Neighbour saves man from fire

A MAN saved his neighbour from serious injury last night when he broke down the door of his smoke-filled flat in First Tower and put out a fire.

After checking that the 59-year-old man - whom he knew had recently suffered a stroke - was unhurt, the neighbour opened all of the windows to clear the smoke.

This morning, the actions of the unnamed rescuer, who is aged 56, have been praised by the Fire Service.

When firefighters arrived, the two men were still inside the flat and they helped the pair out into the fresh air.

Both were suffering from smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene before ambulance paramedics took them to hospital.

The neighbour had been alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm and the smell of smoke.
