News from the

Making the grade

By Carly Lockhart and Anna Keylock

IT was a huge day in the lives of hundreds of Jersey students today as they found out their A-level results.

Many went to their schools in mid-morning to pick up their results in person. With university places to confirm or plans to completely re-think, nerves were frayed, but the news was generally believed to be very good.

The Education department are collating the results and are expected to announce later today how Jersey has fared in comparison with the UK. Normally, the Island's results are better.

However, one school which was definitely celebrating was Victoria College. It managed to achieve a 100% pass rate. Robert Cook, headmaster of the College, said that he was 'delighted' with the results.

Just over 73% of the College pupils achieved grades A or B, he said, and there were eight students who had got four As.
