Hearing Resource Centre
The Hearing Resource Centre provides a valuable free service, without referral, for people with various degrees of hearing impairment.
It is located within the grounds of Overdale Hospital. The Centre also offers information, education, training, support and advice to families, other professionals and voluntary organisations.
There is a comprehensive library of books and videos at the Centre and working displays of environmental aids. Lip-reading and British Sign Language courses are on offer, as is Speech and Language Therapy. Advice on careers and hearing aids is provided. Hearing aid batteries can be bought, and minor repairs, cleaning and battery provision is available for those people who are unable to attend the Centre.
A part-time co-ordinator and part-time administrator staff the service along with a Senior Audiologist, a Social Worker with Deaf People and trained volunteers. Even still, there is always a need for more volunteers. So if you are interested in working in this area, or would like some advice or further information, contact The Human Resource Centre at Overdale Hospital, Westmount, St Helier, JE1 3UH, telephone or fax
