Food Festivals
The Jersey International Food Festival is a chance to sample the best of local cuisine and tends to fall each year in May.
The festival gives Island chefs an opportunity to impress as a traffic-free St Helier is transformed into a thriving al-fresco marketplace.
Thousands crowd the streets as stalls, shops and bars spring up around town, serving a variety of global delights, from marinated octopus to Alabama chocolate fudge cake. You can chose to sample a little bit of everything, or tuck into your favorite foods; and if eating proves to be thirsty work, there are plenty of bars and cafˇs around where you can take a break.
Between meals diners are entertained by song and street theatre, and the Jersey International Food Festival becomes a combination of sun, song, seafood and sangria.
Other diary dates for foodies include the Jersey Irish Festival, an annual celebration of Irish food and culture, the CAMRA Jersey Real Ale Festival which offers three days of beer-tasting, live entertainment and food at the Royal Hotel and two days of traditional Cider Making activities at Hamptonne. There is also the Portuguese fair which fills everyones eyes, ears, glasses and bellies with some tasty Maderian specialities and rather lively entertainment.
