Letters from the

Isn't this pollution too?

From Malcolm Ray.

17/8/07

AFTER the fiasco of the 2006 Battle of Flowers, congratulations to the organisers, float-builders and the other helpers in making this year's Battle and Moonlight Parade the success that it was, despite any minor hitches.

The only disappointment for me was the decision by Terry McDonald to abandon his attempt to set a record for his rocket launch.

Sadly, he bowed to pressure from the likes of environmentalists and conservationists. This was to be a one-off event.

The people who campaigned against this have not written letters to the JEP to try to get the Battle of Britain air display stopped. I wonder why not if they are so concerned about pollution and the atmosphere?

Also, many of them will still drive around in their cars, adding further to pollution as the car population in Jersey continues to grow at an alarming rate.

Many people don't practise what they preach. To me, this smacks of double standards.
