POPPED over to see the relatives and decided to go to the Battle of Flowers.
We liked (in no particular order):
The Red Barrows and the Red Arrows (good costumes and sequences).
St Clement and Trinity floats (so similar yet so different).
Grouville's lovely costumes.
The Dalek and Cyberman (pity there were no voices).
Street Heat (really got the whole carnival atmosphere going).
The voice of the singer on the Music Room lorry.
The Indian/Bollywood float and its dancers.
The petals cannon.
Basil Fawlty.
The free fans (very useful).
But, not so great (again, in no particular order):
The family of four who only paid for two tickets (their little one was on their lap but the teen just took one of the several untaken seats nearby and the marshal didn't even quibble).
The seat section markers (facing away from people coming to sit so you had to go on to the arena to read them).
The lack of commentary (sitting at the turning end we heard little, but later we found out that Stewpot had been giving a commentary for the VIPs).
Everything 'parking' near the VIP seating, leaving very sparse and gappy entertainment for the rest of us (although we did get to see it all).
Only some of the winners showing what had been won (why not have a certificate for each side of the float?)
However, we had a great time at the Battle and will probably be back again next time.
Rue de Maupertuis, St Clement.
