Household Waste

Parish authorities are responsible for the collection of household waste in Jersey. Other domestic items such as appliances carpets and bulky waste can be taken directly to the appropriate sites.

Most Parishes provide a weekly collection - check with your Parish Hall for your collection day.

Glass, including bottles, jars and small amounts of broken crockery must be kept separate from black bag waste and presented in a suitable container. Please rinse waste glass containers and remove lids and corks.

In St Helier household glass is collected through public collection points. For your nearest facility call:

Garden Waste
Green waste may be delivered to La Collette for composting. This is composted and turned into a Soil Improver - this is great for the garden and now available in local garden centres.

Broken Crockery
Small quantities may be disposed of with the Parish glass collection. Large items must be taken to la Collette for disposal.

Computers, TV's and Electrical Equipment
If still in working order please try and find someone who could make use of these items such as a local charity. Otherwise they should be delivered to the Bellozanne site. Mostly metal items such as fridges and cookers should be delivered to the Bellozanne Scrapyard.

Batteries
Batteries must not be disposed of with the household waste as they can contain hazardous chemicals. Instead they must be taken to the Bellozanne weighbridge - place in large red box in the main entrance.

Car Batteries
These should be taken to the Bellozanne Scrapyard or to the Bellozanne Weekend facility.

Pallet Boards
White 'EURO' boards and multi-trip boards such as the blue 'GKN' should either be re-used or returned to the 'pallet pool' companies. GKN boards can be returned to Condor Logistics or collected by Patch Distributers. Other boards should go to Huelin Renouf Shipping on the Victoria Quay if they are in good condition. Non-recyclable or damaged boards should be taken to La Collette Packaging Timber Shredding Site so that they can be recycled.

Gas Cylinders
These are a potential health and safety hazard as they contain explosive chemicals so they must be handed over directly to an operator at Bellozanne. Propane gas Cylinders (BOC Gas Cylinders) and Oxy-Acetylene cylinders should be delivered to Norman Ltd, Five Oaks, St Saviour.

Fridges
CFC's and other refrigerant gases must be removed from the circulation system prior to safe disposal. Fridges must be delivered to Bellozanne scrapyard so that this process can take place.

For a free information pack on waste minimisation and recycling please contact John Rive, Recycling Officer or . The Public Services website contains further information.
