Telephones and Mobile Phones

Phone lines are connected through Jersey Telecom.

You will need to apply for a line by visiting the retail outlet in Minden Place, St. Helier. Monthly line rental charges depend on the tariff selected.
- Call boxes: Coin operated call boxes, which accept 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 coins, can be found throughout the Island.
- Mobile phones: Mobile phones can be bought and connected at various outlets but Jersey Telecom is the sole provider of mobile phone services.
If you are on a regular "contract" or a post paid mobile services package, which offers a roaming service when you are out of the Island, pay attention when making a call from some parts of the eastern and northern parishes. These areas are fairly close to the French mainland and you may find yourself logged onto the French Telecommunications network and that 'local' calls may be one of the more expensive ones made.
Mobile phone users from the UK can use a regular contract phone whilst staying in Jersey. However, if they are prepaid (pay as you go), they will not be able to use the Jersey network unless they contact their network providers before arriving in the island. At present, prepaid Jersey mobile phone users will not be able to roam in the UK or overseas.
For more information, telephone Jersey Telecom Mobile Services Helpline by dialling 152.

Legend has it that St Helier, who lived the life of a hermit on a rock in St Aubin's bay, was murdered by Saxon pirates in 555 AD.
